Portraiture

black & white film, 2015

This series of portraits was my personal gateway to black and white film photography. Using the human face and figure as a subject, I experimented with shooting on an analog camera. Photographing various friends in both indoor and outdoor environments, I focused on creating images with dynamic compositions and strong lighting.

Black and white portraiture was also a way for me to memorialize some of the most important friendships from my teenage years. We live in an age of fleeting images- from disappearing Snapchats to digital archives lost in The Cloud. Photographing my friends on film is both an act of permanence and objection to the digital forms of documentation we commonly use to commemorate those closest to us.
